We are Baptist in tradition, theology, and practice. As Baptist Christians, we value the authority of God’s Word, the Bible, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer and in the life of our church. Below are some beliefs on specific topics:
God: We worship God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! We believe that God created everything – the world, angels and us to glorify him!
Isaiah 43:6-7; Revelation 4:8-11
Satan: The Bible teaches us that Satan is a rebellious angel who was thrown form heaven and now roams the earth seeking to destroy peoples’ lives and lead the in to a life of sin. Just as Satan tempted Jesus, he and his demons still tempts us today and try to mislead us into a life of sin and rebellion.
1 Peter 5:8-9
The Church: God communicates his eternal purposes for the church clearly in his word – to worship God, to serve God, to fellowship with other believers, and to witness and to share the message of Jesus Christ with the world! We believe that the local church is to be autonomous and governed by locally elected leadership. The local church is simply a community of believers who gather together to grow spiritually, serve, and develop Christ-centered friendships.
The Bible: We believe the Bible to be God’s holy and inspired Word. It is a source of inspiration and revelation for believers. It is beneficial for teaching, correction, training, and equipping believers in faith and service. It is also the foundation for preaching, discerning God’s will, and sharing the Gospel. The Bible is central to the life of the church.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Humanity: We believe that men and women were created equally by God and before God. Although we are created in the image of God we have fallen as the result of sin. Therefore, we are in need of God’s forgiveness, mercy, and grace for salvation. No matter how broken our lives may be, God’s grace is sufficient for us!
Genesis 1:26-28; Romans 3:23
Baptism and The Lord’s Supper: We practice “believer’s baptism” as the New Testament model for baptism and church membership! Most people think that this means we believe that a person has to be dunked. Believer’s baptism is founded on the basis of regenerate church membership and actually means that there is an order by which a person receives Christ and comes to profess their faith openly. This order includes belief and acceptance of Christ as Lord, public expression of faith through baptism, and formal church membership. Baptism, therefore, is an outer expression of an internal transformation of one’s heart. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper or Communion openly. This means that anyone who is a true believer, whether they are a member of our church or not, is invited to participate. We practice Communion openly as participants of God’s one, true, and universal church, that is bound by the Spirit and the Blood of Jesus Christ, regardless of denominational background.
Matthew 3:1-11
Salvation: We are saved only by the grace of God alone through faith and through the hearing and receiving of God’s Word. Salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification, therefore, every true believer will experience and give evidence to various levels of spiritual growth throughout his or her lifetime.
Romans 1:16-18; Ephesians 2:8
Positions on Various Issues
Marriage: We believe that the Bible clearly teaches that marriage was designed by God to be a life-long commitment between a man and a woman. Additionally, we believe that marriage should be considered an aspect of Christian discipleship by believers and that marriages should not be self-serving, but rather serve the greater purposes of God’s kingdom. Recognizing this, we also concede that God can work through broken relationships and bring forth new marriages among believers that may glorify God and build up the church. Therefore, we do not exclude those who are divorced or remarried from the membership or ministries of the church, but welcome them in God’s grace and love.
